ACCOMPLISHMENTS

2014

  • Hosted the American Legal System Program and Engineering Program for more than 150 students from 20+ universities in China
  • Hosted several ten-week intern programs:  MCEP conducted a week of orientation and arranged intern positions for each student to work for 9 weeks at local businesses, government, or non-profit organizations.  Students stayed in condos owned by MCEP or hotel.  On the weekdays, students worked as interns to learn professional skills related to their majors and business operation.  On Fridays, students attended class offered Wayne State University on American business and culture.  On the evenings, students experienced cultural and recreational activities.  On the weekends, they were hosted by Macomb County advisor families or they participated in MCEP arranged trips, including Niagara Falls, Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., Northern Michigan, etc.
  • Dec. 30, 2013 – March, 18, 2014: Hosted 13 Shanghai University students.

2013

  • February 18: Organized the 4th annual MCEP Chinese New Year Celebration to honor local Mandarin teachers.
  • February 5 – 14: Held a 4 part Seminar Series of the People’s Republic of China. The series featured lectures on best travel practices, a beginners guide to Mandarin, Chinese culture and etiquette, and Chinese history.
  • March 28 – April 8: Led the 2nd annual MCEP Educational and Cultural Trip to China for high school students. 9 students and 5 adults from Macomb County visited Shanghai, Qufu, and Beijing.
  • July 23 – 25: Hosted Prof. Guo Feng, the dean of the Central University of Finance and Economics, Shandong University (CUFE).

  • July 1 – September 8: Hosted 14 Shanghai University students.
  • July 8 – September 16: Hosted 17 Shanghai Maritime University students.
  • September 15 – December 1: Hosted 6 Shanghai University students.
  • July 7 – 20: Organized the 2nd Summer English Annual Camp for 7 Chinese junior and high school students.  The camp included morning English classes, afternoon visits to local cultural institutions, and evening recreational activities.  Students stayed with host families and spent 2 days in camping.
  • July 11 – 25: Hosted 3 faculties and 20 students from Shanghai University Engineering School.  Arranged 2-day internship with local business, tour ofBusiness Incubators, 3 campus tours, visits to 3 big corporations, visits to local cultural institutions and evening recreational activities, 2-day Chicago trip, and staying at local residents’ home by host families.
  • Hosted 4 law student study tours.  Arranged tours of Macomb County courts, District Courts, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the Federal District Court.  Arranged student a 3-day internships at courts.  Arranged students to stay with local residents’ home as host families for 9 days to 2 weeks.  Organized and hosted a 5-day tour of Washington D.C.
  • July 6 – 23: 4 faculties and 14 students from Beijing Normal University, Zhejiang Gongshang University.
  • July 20 – August 6: 2 faculties and 25 students from the Central University of Finance and Economics, Shandong University (CUFE), Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Shanxi University.
  • August 3 – 20: 1 faculty and 22 students from Xiamen University, Wuhan University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and University of International Business and Economics.
  • August 10 – 23: 1 faculty and 13 students from China University of Political Science and Law.
  • July 27 – August 11: Hosted 2 professors and 2 students from Qufu Normal University for cultural exchange programs in Tai chi and Ping Pong.  Arranged their demonstrations and teaching tours at Rodgers Elementary School, Westview Elementary School, Shelby Macomb Medical Mall, Partridge Creek Mall, ICRJ LLL Summer Camp at St. Mark Church, Richmond Township Senior Center, and YMCA. Arranged their weekend activities and trip to Niagara Falls.
  • September 29 – October 7: Hosted the 4th “American Business Culture” study tour for 17 Shanghai University MBA students and 1 leader in Macomb County and Southeast Michigan.
  • September 30: Hosted 4 representatives from Nantong to discuss partnership.  The representatives are vice secretary-general of municipal People’s government, principal of Nantong Middle School, director of International Dept., and director of Teaching Dept. of Nantong Middle School.
  • October 21 – 23: Hosted the Vice President Shiyong Feng and Professor Zhang of China University of Political Science and Law.  They visit District Court and Circuit Court, meet with judges, and discuss law students’ internship program with MCEP.

2012

  • January 19 – 21: Hosted a 4-member delegation including the Dean of Shanghai University Fine Arts College.
  •  January 30: Organized the 3rd annual MCEP Chinese New Year Celebration to honor local Mandarin teachers.
  • March 22 – April 9: Led the 1st annual MCEP Educational and Cultural Trip to China for high school students. 45 students and 17 adults from 5 different school districts in Macomb County visited Shanghai, Qufu, and Beijing.  Macomb County schools with sister schools in China also spent one week with host families and their sister school.
  • May 26 – 28: Hosted Neng Hui Zhang, the Dean of Shanghai University, Sydney School of Business.
  • June 12: Hosted an 8-member delegation from Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. The delegation included the Vice Mayor.  A breakfast reception with the City of Sterling Heights was held in their honor.
  • June 22 – 24: Hosted 39 students and faculty members from Shanghai University’s Fine Arts College. Students toured Wayne State University’s Art Department, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Henry Ford Museum.
  • June 26: Hosted a 6-member delegation from the Zhabei District of Shanghai. A breakfast reception with Circuit Court Judge David Viviano was held in their honor. They visited the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board and U.S. Attorney’s office to learn about U.S. legal corruption procedures.
  • July 6 – September 1: Hosted 9 students under Shanghai University Business and Culture Overseas Study Program (BCOSP).  Arranged visitations and workshops with local businesses, Sterling Heights City Center, Oakland University, and Wayne State incubators.  Students stayed in a Macomb County hotel during the 2 month stay. On the weekdays they were arranged to be at different business locations learning their administration, production, and management procedures. On the evenings, students experienced cultural and recreational activities.  On the weekends, they were hosted by Macomb County advisor families.
  • July 6 – 24: Hosted the 2nd study tour for 2 faculty and 21 students from China University of Political Science and Law. Arranged tours of Macomb County courts, District Courts, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the Federal District Court.  Arranged student internships at courts and local residents’ home as host families for them to stay with.  Organized and hosted a 3-day tour of Washington D.C.
  • July 12 – 26: Hosted 3 faculty and 20 students from Shanghai University Engineering School.  Arranged internship with local business, tour ofBusiness Incubators, visits to local cultural institutions and evening recreational activities, and staying at local residents’ home by host families.
  • July 28 – August 10: Hosted 2 professors and 2 students from Qufu Normal University for cultural exchange programs in Tai chi and Ping Pong. Arranged their demonstrations and teaching tours in the Clinton Township Senior Center, local churches, Fitzgerald public school, and Lee Elementary School of Richmond publish school.  Arranged their visitations to Wayne State University and Macomb Community College.
  • August 5 – 21: Organized the 1st Summer English Annual Camp for 24 high school students and 2 faculty from Qidong. The camp included morning English classes, afternoon visits to local cultural institutions, and evening recreational activities.  Students stayed with host families and spent 5 days in Washington D.C.
  • Sept. 23 – 27: Hosted the visit of Professor Huaide Ma, Dean of Continuing Education of the China University of Political Science and Law, and Professor Qing Zhang.  MCEP arranged their meetings with U.S. House of Representatives Congressman, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Judge, Federal Judge, District Judges, Professor of U. Michigan, Associate Vice President of Oakland U., and Professor of Wayne State U. to explore the setup of a center for continuing legal education in Macomb.
  • Sept. 29 – Oct. 7: Hosted the 3rd “American Business Culture” study tour for 25 Shanghai University MBA students and 3 faculties in Macomb County and Southeast Michigan.
  • Oct. 15: hosted the visit of Yu Zhang, International Recruitment Coordinator of University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute.  MCEP arranged her meetings with Macomb school officials and conducted an informational meeting for general public who are interested in obtaining dual degree from both institutes.

2011

  • January 10-16: Hosted 35 Shanghai University MBA students to learn “American Business Culture” in Macomb County and Metro Detroit.
  • February 3: Organized the 2nd annual MCEP Chinese New Year Celebration to honor local Mandarin teachers, doubling the previous year’s attendance.
  • March: Hosted our first delegation visit from the Chinese University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). Hosted our first delegation visit from Qidong. Released the 1st Issue of MCEP Monthly.
  • April 15-25, 2011: Led the 4th MCEP economic development trip to the People’s Republic of China. Eleven local businesses, government, cultural, K-12, and higher education leaders set out to further current relationships as well as build new international opportunities.
  • April 21 – May 4: Led 15 participants on their cultural experience trip to the People’s Republic of China. The trip provided an opportunity for community members not necessarily looking for economic development opportunities, but to increase their cultural awareness and understanding.
  • June 9-10: Hosted a 6-person delegation from the Zhabei District in Shanghai. The delegation, which included Vice Governor Bao Yingjing, visited their sister school and the International Academy of Macomb. This event laid the groundwork for an agreement establishing a ping pong club between Macomb County and Zhabei.
  • June 15-16: Hosted a 5-person delegation from Nantong interested in learning more about the American legal and police systems.
  • June 16-17: Hosted a 5-person delegation from Qufu Normal University who signed a formal agreement with Wayne State University for exchanges between the two institutions based on negotiations occurred during MCEP’s previous trip to Qufu.
  • July 17 – 31: Arranged the 2nd study tour for Shanghai University students from the School of Material Science and Engineering to visit Macomb County, campus tour of Michigan universities, and to stay in local residents’ homes. Arranged student internships with local businesses.
  • August 13 – 25: Arranged Chinese University of Political Science and Law students to visit Macomb County for the first time. Led campus tour of Michigan universities, arranged tours of Macomb County Courts, District Courts, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the Federal District Court.  Arranged student internships at courts and staying in local residents’ homes. Organized and hosted a three day tour of Washington D.C.
  • September 20:  Hosted the Export to Success seminar for Macomb County businesses with the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce and the Sterling Heights Chamber of Commerce.
  • October 1 – 9:  Hosted 29 Shanghai University MBA students who were interested in learning “American Business Culture” in Macomb County and Metro Detroit.
  • October 13: Hosted a 6-member delegation from the Qingpu district of Shanghai.  The delegation made their first visit to Macomb County after MCEP visited Qingpu on our economic trip in November of 2010.
  • October 13:  Welcomed the arrival of Dr. Ping Shuai, associate professor of Business, and Ms. Winnie Chen, lecturer of Fine Arts, both from Shanghai University.  MCEP housed them for one year while they researched the possibility of establishing a Shanghai University Center in Macomb County.
  • November 5 – 7:  Hosted the president of the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and a 6-person delegation from the university.  CUPL and Wayne State University signed an agreement to work on joint programs.

2010

  • January 28: Hosted a meeting for Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Shi Yan School, sister school to Lake Shore Public Schools, after meeting with them on MCEP’s 1st trip to China.
  • February 18: Organized the 1st annual MCEP Chinese New Year Celebration, honoring local Mandarin teachers.
  • March – April: Led the 2nd MCEP economic development trip to the People’s Republic of China. Nine participants visited Shanghai and Wuhan (Hubei Province).
  • May 19: Conducted a welcome event for Yanfeng Visteon executives after the opening of new Warren facilities.
  • June 23: Conducted a presentation describing Mount Clemens/Clinton International Education City project to community leaders and officials.
  • July 2: Hosted 200+ Hispanic and Hispanic American business leaders at the Macomb County Administration Building during the Mount Clemens Stars & Stripes Festival in conjunction with the Mexican Consulate in Detroit.
  • July 14-27: Arranged a study tour for 21 Shanghai University students the School of Material Science and Engineering to visit Macomb County, tour the campuses of Michigan universities, and to stay in local residents’ homes.
  • July 26-30: Assisted the Confucius Institute of Wayne State University in providing summer camp at the Macomb Intermediate School District for middle and high school students.
  • September 10: Conducted workshops for Macomb County businesses on future MCEP China trips and the establishment of an EB-5 Regional Center to attract international investment in Macomb County.
  • October 2010 – January 2011: Assisted Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Shi Yan School students to study for a semester at Lake Shore High School while living in a local apartment complex.
  • October 13, 19-20: Organized Wayne State University seminars on China at Macomb Education Center facility for participants of MCEP trips, interested participants, and local community members.
  • November 2-3: Hosted a 4-person presidential delegation from Shanghai University to conduct a university discussion with 7 local institutes and establish an agreement with 9 local companies to provide a 2-month internship opportunity based on prior discussions from MCEP’s trips to China
  • November 7-9: Hosted a 6-person delegation from Nantong (Jiangsu Province) to visit L’Anse Creuse Public Schools and create a “sister school” district.
  • November – December: Led the 3rd MCEP economic development trip to the People’s Republic of China. Eleven participants visited Beijing and the Jiading and Zhabei Districts of Shanghai.
  • December 2010: Created an EB-5 Partnership to attract foreign investment.

2009

  • June 26: Hosted 150+ Chinese and Chinese American business leaders at the Macomb County Administration Building during the Mount Clemens Stars & Stripes Festival.
  • September 28-29: Hosted the first Shanghai University delegation visit to Macomb County.
  • October 13: Co-sponsor with Oakland University at a welcome event for the Guizhou Educational Bureau delegation.
  • November – December: Led the 1st MCEP economic development trip to the People’s Republic of China. Twenty-one participants visited Beijing, Nantong (Jiangsu Province), and Qidong (Jiangsu Province), as well as the Jiading, Zhabei, Jingqiao and Huangpu Districts of Shanghai.
